Online Presence of the PC Game
by wotmania
Okay, a few days ago I received an e-mail from Carl Sharp, the leader of The Black Tower gaming clan, requesting my aid in promoting the WoT PC game. My first reaction was to think, "This game is very popular and distributed by a very large company (that would be Legend Entertainment) that I would assume has a very large advertising budget. Why the heck do they need help to promote this game?" Then a few thoughts occurred to me...
Here is a little background about the computer game to give the uninitiated a crash course in this game... The computer game is built on the popular and powerful Unreal engine. In the past few years I lost interest in computer games, simply because I am too busy working on wotmania. But anyone who knows anything about computer games has heard about Unreal. The WoT game is a first person shooter (FPS) game like Doom, or Quake, or a number of other popular and well-known games. But to make things even more interesting, there are additional strategy components. Ever want to wander around Shadar Logoth or the White Tower? Well, of course you have - and this game is your chance to do it.
The game has gained a lot of recognition and also won an award as Gamespy's Action Game of the Year (1999). So if you enjoy FPS's and WoT but have yet to buy this game, I can only ask why you haven't bought it yet! And if you do own the game, then you probably could have just skipped this section. Darn, should have mentioned that at the beginning of this little background section...
If you are looking for information about the PC game, I think your first stop should probably be the official site for the game. One of the best features about the site is the demo of the game that you can download. Additionally, there are a whole load of screen shots from the game and forums to discuss the game. In summary - this is the official site for the game. Go there, look at it, enjoy it - there is certainly plenty to do there. And it seems to me there is enough solid information here to decide whether or not you want to buy the game, if you haven't bought it already.
Just like the WoT series itself, this game has inspired a number of dedicated individuals to create websites related to the game. I am just going to list a few of the biggest and best here, and if you are interested in learning more about the game I can only recommend that you visit all these sites... ShadarLogoth.com is one of the biggest sites related to the WoT PC game that I could find. That would probably be why there is a link to ShadarLogoth.com from the official site... In any event, ShadarLogoth.com certainly has plenty of information and resources - game info, news, downloads, information about level editing, forums, and more. You can't go wrong visiting this site! WoT Clans is another of those sites distinguished enough to have earned a link from the official game site, and with good reason! In addition to hosting clans, WoT Clans has information about tournament dates, rules, and results. The aforementioned Black Tower clan is just one of the many clans hosted at WoT Clans (and their site is nothing to sniff at, either!). WoT Clans also features a chat, forums, and news. Don't miss it! Planet Wheel of Time is yet another big huge wonderful site that anyone who is interested in the computer game simply must go visit - news, downloads, forums, hosting, etc. Planet Wheel of Time is also part of the GameSpy network, a series of sites about a number of different computer games. Enjoy!
Well, I think this article at least gives you a little information about the PC game with enough links and such to find more info if you so desire... Hopefully it has also served as a pretty good overview of the WoT PC game's presence online. I cannot understand why Legend has not promoted this game online as much as it could, but who am I to question the decisions of a big and powerful company? In any event, I hope that this article will serve to spark a little interest in the computer game. Happy gaming!
