Message Board Help
This little help file is here to help people understand the way this new message board works. Below is a list of questions, with links to the answers below. Why do I need to be registered to post?
Some people complain that it is such a pain to be registered to post on the message board. But I have come to the realization that requiring people to be registered with wotmania before making use of a feature (the chat is the best example) dramatically reduces unacceptable behavior. And registration is free and easy, so quit complaining and fill out this short form.

Why do I need to be logged in to use all the special features?
Well, there are a couple reasons for this... First, I'm making a big push toward the customization of wotmania. I want everyone to come to wotmania, login (or be logged in automatically - that's an option), and then happily browse around wotmania enjoying the site the way you want to enjoy it. This message board is just one example of this trend at wotmania. Second, it makes my life a lot simpler to write things this way. It's a lot easier to make most of the features on the board require you to be logged in.

How do the yellow/purple folders work?
On the main page of the board, threads with a yellow folder contain no new messages since your last visit. Threads with a purple folder contain a message that was posted since your last visit to the message board.

How do I set up a user signature?
Setting up a user signature is pretty simple. It's a preference related to your account at wotmania. All you need to do is login to your account maintenance page and edit your user signature. Once you have created/updated your user signature it will be applied to all features of wotmania that make use of the user signature.

What HTML is allowed on the board?
I am only allowing text formatting HTML on the board, for a couple reasons... First, people have a bad habit of abusing HTML by making parts of their posts in giant red letters. I find this annoying, as do many others. Second, I have occasionally gotten e-mails from webmasters complaining that someone on my website linked directly to images on their servers - so that's why I didn't enable the image tag. So in the end, I enabled the following tags: bold, italics, underline, ordered list, unordered list, list item, and blockquote.

Are cookies required?
Cookies stored on your computer are not required to use the message board. But if you want to make use of the message board's extra features you should login and enable at least the per-session cookies on your computer.

How does the board remember me?
By magic. After you login to wotmania and visit the message board, the site logs your most recent message board visit in the database. The old wotmania message board remembered your computer via cookie. The new message board remembers you in the database. Makes you special, doesn't it? And that's how wotmania can keep track of which messages on the message board have been posted since your last visit.

How does the board display topics from the past "x" number of days?
By default, the message board displays all topics with new posts within the past three days. This is a preference you can change in your wotmania account to let wotmania remember this number every time you visit (and are logged in). You can also change this on a per-visit basis by using the dropdown menu on the main message board page. The further back the message board goes, the more messages will be displayed and the longer it will take the main page of the message board to load.
